"Elegance"

Bronze, s/n edition of 15, $5800

22 1/2" long x 11 1/2" high (to the top of the horse's neck) x 9 1/2" wide (including base)

Pictured above is #1 of the edition, which my customer wanted with a brass name plate. I don't put name plates on non-trophy pieces very often anymore, but if you want a brass name plate on yours, I'll be happy to do that for you.

"Elegance" was commissioned to be the World Championship Trophy for the Concours d'Elegance at the Friesian Extravaganza, first presented in 2007 in Springfield OH. This perpetual trophy will run for fifty years and resides at the FHANA headquarters at the Kentucky Horse Park. Each year's winner will have his or her name engraved on one of the small trophy plates around the base. This photo was taken by Lake Wallowa, Oregon, near the foundry where it was cast (in Enterprise OR).

I am honored to announce that "Elegance" was awarded a prize in the EX ARTE EQUINUS International Equine Art Competition presented by Art Horse Magazine, resulting in "Elegance" being included in a coffee table book filled with gorgeous equine art! You can read more about that (and order the coffee table book) here: Ex Art Equinus book.

This sculpture was particularly difficult to create due to the reproduction 17th century Friesian "sjees" (chaise), which also makes it difficult to create in bronze (for instance, all the tiny pieces have to be made by hand for each bronze, just as I made them by hand for the original). I can't say enough about the workmanship of my foundry. I've never seen a bronze smaller than lifesize with a Liverpool bit before, but here it is! Absolutely amazing work, complete with slots in the bit shanks just as there are in real life!

Pictures of the carriage "in progress" are here: Carriage in Progress.
