How to Display Your Sculpture

To display sculpture at its best, use dramatic background colors and lighting. One of the most beautiful things about sculpture is the play of light and shadow over the surface, so pay close attention to lighting the piece. Track lighting can be positioned to highlight the sculpture, or a nearby lamp or window can give a sidelight. Try a variety of setups to see what pleases you most.

Locate the sculpture in an area that compliments it, enhances its size and shape, preferably where it can be seen from all sides. My own favorite place to display large sculpture is the center of my dining room table so the piece can be "walked around" and viewed from all sides. I move pieces around the house from time to time to "feature" different ones.

For a small sculpture, a pedestal, or high table top that brings the piece closer to eye level is beneficial (not necessary, but nice). Remember that the surroundings of the sculpture will contribute to the viewers' enjoyment of it. Put it where you'll see it frequently, in a beautiful setting, so you will get the most pleasure from it.

While bronze sculptures can do very well outdoors, those on wooden bases (like those on this site) are not made to be installed outdoors. If you would like to commission an outdoor piece, or have one of the bronzes featured on this site configured for outdoor use, please contact me.
